Empowering Young Minds: 300 School Pupils to Participate in Body Image Intervention Program

Updated: Dec 26, 2023

How does a body image intervention programme for schools tackle negative body image issues before they impact on teens mental health?

We do it with the right intervention and school staff that want to tackle body image problems in schools.

In 2021 over 24,000 young people were admitted to hospital in the UK with an eating disorder. Since then, stats have increased by 84% – Body Image Coach offers online animated workshops to help teens address body image issues Children’s commissioner 2023

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is becoming more common than eating disorders, with over 2.2% of UK’s young people, suffering – BDD Foundation.

We are contributing to the reduction of eating disorders and BDD, by offering a unique intervention that is taking the UK by storm.

How do we deliver body image interventions in schools and see results in a 6-12 week time frame?

Well... we use the internet as our best friend and we ask teachers to plug us up and in, to the whole school, for 1 hour per week, so that we can deliver our animated workshops on-line.

But before we do this, we make sure we gather information on how a student is feeling around their body image, so that we can measure their shift in mindset, after they have completed the programme.

As well as this, each student works through a comprehensive journey planner and we have 1-1 support for those students that need extra support, as well as parent 1-1’s too.

We cover therapy, coaching, peer support groups, parent guidance and anything in-between. A ‘one stop’ shop that covers mild to severe body image difficulties.

We need the government to listen to what schools need more of. If this intervention was implemented throughout secondary schools, imagine how much this would support students with their mental health. In turn, this would influence their attendance and grades.

Every school that we speak to, says this is desperately needed. So what are we waiting for?

If you agree, please share this post so that we can make this happen. We are a ‘not for profit’ community interest organisation. We are passionate about supporting young people and a little bit of your help goes a long way.
